Shipyards

What happened … or to put it better, what hasn’t happened at the much talked about waterfront extension of Collingwood’s beautiful downtown shopping district? Where is the retail development and waterfront restaurant that was promised? Why are portions of this waterfront development boarded up a decade after construction was haulted?

Here is the view from the foot of Collingwood’s main street, in to what was proposed to be a retail/restaurant/public area extension of the downtown shopping district. The land is unkempt and sits undeveloped.

The site of the former shipyards dry dock was to be a welcoming public gathering place for residents of the Shipyards, tourists, boaters and for Collingwood residents. The land sits undeveloped.

I think you’ll agree that this is not a pleasant site. The property was to be a major component of the Shipyards development but has sat untouched. It is an eyesore.

This boarded up section of Sidelaunch Way is the first thing people see when they enter the Shipyards development from Collingwood’s main street shopping district.
