During an election there will be all kinds of ideas and promises made by candidates running for a seat on council. Some candidates will make promises and tell you what you want to hear just to gain your vote. Some are new to politics and do this innocently. Some don’t understand how municipal government operates. Some will intentionally pull the wool over your eyes. That being said, I am confident that there will be some great ideas that will be shared that will move the Town of Wasaga Beach forward during the 2022-2026 term of council.

I encourage you to do your own due diligence on answers you receive from candidates. Get the details. Go to the source. Go to the agency or appropriate staff member. Deal with factual information.

I will do my best to provide information in this newsroom about a variety of topics being spoken about in the community. I will provide factual information as well as resources for you to do your own due diligence.

Promises Made – Promises Kept
-Posted August 28, 2022

Promises made and promises kept! There seems to be some rewriting of history by some non-supporters of mine and what I said with regard to redevelopment of our beachfront during the last election. This link will take you to an article I wrote just before the 2018 October municipal election. I think you will see the similarities in what we are moving forward with today! Please share with those who need a refresher as well as new residents to the area who don’t know the history! Have a great day!

Getting To The Bottom Of It
-Posted August 16, 2022

I have found that when people have nothing legitimate to take their opponent down, they use lies and rumours as a last resort.

My opponents, along with their supporters, after years of personal attacks against me, are ramping up for the election. This will be the last time I engage in it. I think it’s time to put an end to this rumour.  For the record and final time, I have not slept with the Fire Chief.

Environmental Matters
– Posted August 1, 2022

Growing up I can remember my dad pushing acorns and walnuts into the ground on a walk or random pots with seedlings in them that he would later plant in the ground with no other purpose than to watch them grow. Most of my life I have grown up on land with lots of trees. My grandparents and great grandparents were in the landscaping business as well as tree farming. The town has a number of by-laws in place to ensure a healthy environment.

Character Assassination
– Posted July 30, 2022

Definition: The malicious, deliberate and unjustified harming of a person’s good reputation by criticizing them in an unfair and dishonest way. Narcissistic people are known for this with intentional attempts to influence the portrayal or reputation of someone in such a way as to cause others to develop an extremely negative or unappealing perception of them. Character assassination is inflicted by emotional and psychological abuse designed to destroy the credibility and reputation of the target while attempting to tear them down piece by piece. The clingons who do the dirty work for their leader are just as bad if not worse.

Narcissists, dishonest and unethical people can’t stand honest people. They are weak cowards who try and distract you from their own sordid past by inflicting a character assassination on to others.

My competition and their clingons can’t give you valid reasons to not vote for me. Under my leadership, all of council’s priorities have been met and all have been done above board. After 16 years as a member of council, I can tell you this is not always the case.

Disgusting and Irresponsible Reporting

Posted July 29, 2022

I am totally disgusted with the CTV news report of July 28th dealing with a human resource matter for the Town of Wasaga Beach.

The reporter knows full well that the town, like all other reputable work places, can not and will not discuss a personnel matter. This left the reporter with an incomplete and inaccurate story that he went ahead with anyway.

It would appear that the reporter allowed himself to be pulled in and wrapped up in an election vilification campaign. This reporter giving air time to Councillor Belanger who has a history of being found guilty of breaking the town’s code of conduct and misleading the public, has resulted in a skewed story full of inaccuracies.

Beachfront Negotiations
– Posted July 25, 2022

Negotiations regarding the redevelopment of town-owned land at the beachfront will continue for a few more weeks.

On Thursday July 21, 2022 members of council approved discussions continuing between the town and Bayloc Developments Inc.

The town will provide further information when available.

Lies, Whisper Campaigns and No Class Tactics!
– Posted July 17, 2022

For those who know me, you know I deal with facts and I despise liars.

I will not lie to this community or the residents to gain your vote … but others who have nothing good to share about themselves or any valid positive accomplishments will, and you need to be vigilant.

Along with Deputy Mayor Bray, I attended a charity event this morning. We attended to support the organizers, see some awesome motorcycles and mingle with those visiting our community.

This was a charity event, not a political one. We did not wear our council name tags nor did we expect or ask for any recognition. I was asked last minute by one of the organizers to provide a welcome from the town. I made a 30 second welcome to the riders, congratulated the organizers and thanked them for working on behalf of a great cause.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire
– Posted July 11, 2022

Everyone knows the childhood rhyme, “liar liar pants on fire” but sadly some children grow up to become adults who continue to lie. In my opinion these ethically challenged people like to cause drama and confusion to others for their own selfish reasons.

A video of an event held last week by Giorgio Mamolitti (GM) was sent to me. If you were in attendance or viewed his video I encourage you to get the facts. Listening to people blindly clapping and agreeing with the misinformation that was being spread by this person is alarming. I would also suggest that GM stock up on pants if he is going to continue to spread mistruths.

Wasaga Distribution
– Posted July 6, 2022

The Town of Wasaga Beach is proud to be the sole shareholder of our local electric utility. Our community is protective of the utility and are thankful to staff who provide excellent service to our residents.

During the 2014-2018 Brian Smith term of council the residents of our community stood up and defended our local utility, the staff and the residents of this community. I applaud those who stood up and thank them for saving our utility. The fear that the previous council was going to sell this gem, was a real threat and people stood their ground. In all my years on council I have never witnessed this much outrage or public involvement on any other issue.

Desperate People Do Desperate Things
– Posted June 9, 2022

A well known phrase that clearly defines the extreme behaviours of those writing in a local Wasaga Beach publication known as Beach Booster. In my opinion, while it rarely positively boosts anything in Wasaga Beach it certainly has mastered the art of spreading hate and misinformation.

For the past eight years, Beach Booster has taken every opportunity to take unsubstantiated and hateful runs at me and others in our community in one-sided stories that could have easily been written by Pinocchio. Council has made town resources available to sue the owners of this publication, but to date I have chosen not to.

The way I see it, a lawsuit would cost the taxpayers financially. Mr. Bickerstaff and his publication have already cost the town.

Truth vs Fabrication
– Posted June 4, 2022

It is really difficult to keep up with the sneaky whisper campaigns and the blatant lies and misinformation that gets spread by a handful of people in our community. I do not have time nor desire to spend my days debunking it, but people deserve the truth.

As I’ve said before, I will provide you information when time permits and you can make up your own mind as to why certain people say what they do. Get the facts, connect the dots and do your own due diligence.

The Wasaga Beach Ratepayers Association has been sending out emails and posting on social media again with skewed views. I’m not going to reiterate the nonsense but will speak to a couple of items.

Beachfront Purchase and Redevelopment
– Posted May 17, 2022
I have heard a lot of positive comments from the development community throughout this term of council, whose interest in Wasaga Beach has been fantastic. This positivity is reflective of the building boom we have been experiencing. They are however, concerned, and asking why there is a small handful of people posting negative comments and attacks against council and the development community. Attacks against those who have followed a proper process in an above board manner to redevelop our beachfront.

Be Aware of Snake Oil Salesmen
– Posted May 6, 2022

There are times that people and their lies need to be called out. Some have said that if someone has defamed me or could be held liable, I should just sue them.  And if I don’t sue them then they must not have done anything wrong. I’ve addressed this before but I’ll say it again.

The process to sue someone and go through the courts takes too long all while people continue to believe the lies being spread about you. It costs the person’s reputation and the community’s reputation. There is a policy to protect and defend a member of council or staff when a member of the public defames them, but there is a financial cost to the taxpayers which I don’t wish to put upon them.  So instead, let’s end the latest lies here.

Becoming Nina – The Best Version of Me
Wasaga Beach is on the right path with a responsible council moving forward with the priorities we set at the beginning of this term. Unfortunately, there is a small group in the community who are trying to undermine that with lies and innuendo about council and staff actions as well as personal attacks against individuals. While I have no obligation to share my personal life, I also have nothing to hide, so here it is, my very private story. Take a read and when you see others spinning their lies, feel free to call BS on my behalf! It’s a long read so don’t waste the beautiful weather we have been getting … wait till a rainy day or snow storm.

My competition, their supporters and what you may hear from them
– Posted May 2, 2022
Some candidates and their supporters take the approach of personal attacks on their opponents instead of speaking about their own accomplishments. They spread lies and innuendo through whisper campaigns because their own track record is insufficient or not supportable. They seem to have little regard for rules or ethics.

Political debates and why I won’t be part of them
– Posted May 2, 2022

During the 2018 election it was announced that I, along with my opponent, would be having a debate on a specific day and time. Only after they shared that publicly did they invite me to the event. I declined.

I will not be backed into a corner, pressured to do something I am not comfortable with, know to be wrong, not beneficial, or a waste of time, or has an ulterior motive associated with it.
