Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and The Town of Blue Moutain are served by the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. Serving more than 60,000 permanent residents and over four million annual visitors, the 72 bed facility operates at full occupancy. This leaves some residents looking for care elsewhere.
Healthcare needs to be provided to our residents at all stages of their life.
Mental Health seems to be a growing concern in all age groups with severe anxiety affecting our youth and dementia our elderly. Frail and isolated seniors needing assistance with not just healthcare but other areas of their life as well. Consideration needs to be given to geriatric needs as well as long term, palliative and hospice care.
Proper Nutrition is important to an individual’s health. Programs such as the Good Food Box provide affordable access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The Town’s community garden provides space for individuals to grow their own garden. Our local Ministerial Food Bank volunteers work tirelessly to ensure those in need receive food.
Currently the Town of Wasaga Beach has 11 Family Physicians, nurse practitioners and several other associated health care professionals at the South Georgian Bay Community Health Centre located at the Ramblewood Medical Centre. Georgian Radiology and Life Labs are in the same location and offers x-ray, bone density, ultrasound services, blood work and more. We are very fortunate to have such a facility in our community.
In January 2014 I was invited to join the Community Health Centre Capital Project Committee. This Committee was tasked to ensure $6.1 million dollars of funding from the Province could be utilized in the town of Wasaga Beach to enhance our Community Health Centre. This project is ongoing.
